Local 4 News Detroit (WDIV), ClickOnDetroit

Web Producer

Journalism

My role as a senior digital news editor is extremely multi-faceted, but much of my time is spent writing news articles for news website ClickOnDetroit.com.

As we are a local news station, my articles typically cover local issues and happenings. We receive important information, I write about it, edit it and disseminate it to the world (well, at least to our Metro Detroit readers).

I am, however, specifically passionate about writing about politics and social issues, so I pick up those stories as often as I can. I write a monthly newsletter, called For Our Future, in which I dissect national social, political and economic issues with a Michigan/Metro Detroit focus. My goal is to provide valuable information and research in an easy-to-digest format about some not-so-easy-to-digest problems, while encouraging people to get involved and make a difference wherever they can.

You can find a pretty extensive list of my articles, big and small, on my MuckRack page right here. However, note: Their list is not exhaustive.

You can also find my work directly on ClickOnDetroit.com.

Content Management

My work with ClickOnDetroit isn’t all about writing: I am also responsible for strategizing and coordinating content for our social media pages and YouTube channel.

Working in tandem with the news broadcasts that air on Channel 4 in Detroit, I take content from our television shows and repackage them for the web, posting them as videos on YouTube and as articles on our news site.

I also work alongside our social media manager to post, edit and prepare content for our channels on a daily basis, as we work to establish and engage with our local (and distant!) community.

As part of a content strategy team, I work with my colleagues to plan and schedule content appropriate for certain seasons or situations. We are always brainstorming and looking for new ways to share important information and engage with our viewers. Our goal is to provide content and news that is obviously educational, but also relevant and worthwhile.

Editing

As a natural editor (I really just can’t help myself), I’ve settled into a copy and developmental editing role during my time as a web producer-turned-digital news editor. I, of course, edit my own work, but also provide feedback and assistance to colleagues — particularly on long-form projects (like newsletters), and articles on topics that I cover frequently. A good chunk of my time is spent reviewing materials already published on our website to ensure they meet our quality standards and our particular style.
