Communications Assistant

I enjoyed the opportunity to explore diverse projects as a Communications Assistant for the Global Youth Advancement Network at Michigan State University —
a program focused on the development and capacity building of global youth to
improve their lives and the lives of their community members.

Because GYAN was an entirely new program at the University, I was able to plan and develop the communications and marketing strategies to establish the brand and tone of the program. This position helped me to grow as a writer, editor and designer, while pushing me to better manage internal and external communication processes.

Below you’ll find some work samples:

Event Support - Global Youth Advancement Summit 2019

As a Communications Assistant for GYAN, I was lucky to participate in the planning and execution of the first annual Global Youth Advancement Summit in June 2019. The three-day conference convened young change-leaders from around the globe to present their research, products, services, and more that are improving the lives and conditions of their communities and the world at large. Check out this highlight video to catch a first-hand glimpse of the Summit, along with the methodology behind planning this crucial event:

Webinar Management & Editing

The Global Youth Advancement Network was associated with another program at MSU: Young Innovators in Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development (YIELD), helping young entrepreneurs access and maximize opportunities in the rapidly evolving agri-food system in Africa. As part of our partnership with YIELD, our team facilitated monthly webinars to equip young, African entrepreneurs with knowledge and best practices for small business management and growth.

My role in this project was overseeing the webinars and editing the audio afterward, cutting unnecessary pauses and ensuring audio flowed smoothly and logically. Feel free to check out one of the webinars in the video adjacent, or visit this webpage to browse through all webinars in the YIELD Shop Webinar Series.

Email Marketing & Newsletters

My role consisted of managing external email communications using Mailchimp. Our primary focus was on quarterly newsletters,
which we sent to partner (and potential partner) organizations, stakeholders, and MSU staff and faculty.

Web Content Management

My role included the management of content and design on the program’s primary website, globalyouth.isp.msu.edu, in addition to managing content on our separate website for the Global Youth Advancement Summit (GYAS).
